Count Down Plastic Free (SLJ)

Hello everybody,

Over the past few decades some of New Zealand’s beaches have become dumping grounds for waste and rubbish. Almost 80% of this waste is made up of plastic items.
Some companies in New Zealand have heard about the problem and agreed to cut down on their use of plastic. Countdown supermarkets.
Today I will ask one member of my family or a friend what they think about Countdown’s decision to go ‘plastic bag free and tell you how they felt.

I have asked my mum and she said that it is a good idea because it will be good for the environment due to the fact that it takes lots of years to break down plastic into the soil. Also it would be good for turtles who always mistaken a plastic bag as a jellyfish.

Bye bye everyone I hope to see you on my next blog post I hope you enjoyed reading my blog please leave a comment down below and like my blog.

  1. Kia ora Talisa,

It is great to see that you've interviewed your mum to discuss about the new policy in Countdown! It is true that some animals in the ocean can easily mistake plastic as their source of food. Did you know that plastic bags we use in our everyday life take 10-1000 years to decompose (break down)? It means that the marine mammals who end up swallowing the plastic will most likely have these objects in their belly for their lifetime... How horrible!

I've found this trailer for a documentary about a Canadian couple who went waste free for one full year. It is a very informative and eye-opening video so you should check it out!
