Hi readers,
Do you like Bumble Bee?
I guess you like to watch transformers. Yes I like Bumblebee I think he is a funny robot but he is not what I am going to talk about, I'm actually talking about the insect.
Bumblebees are large, fuzzy insects with short, stubby wings and are larger than honeybees, but they don't produce as much honey; but they are very important pollinators. Without them, food wouldn't grow.
Unbelievable Facts about Bumblebees:
- The word 'bumblebee is a compound word(bumble + bee). The word 'bumble' means
to hum, buzz or drone.
- Bumblebees can fly very quickly. They can reach ground speed of 54 kilometers per hour (km/hr)
- Bumblebees are very strong! They carry up to 90 percentage of their body weight in food with them to avoid starvation.
- Bumblebees can do more work and carry more pollen than other bees, including honeybees. In fact they can do up to 50 times as much work as a normal honeybee,
- The numbers of bumblebees is declining in New Zealand due to a number of factors, including the removal of wildflowers and flowering trees, habitat loss and extensive use of pesticides.

Hello again Talisa,
ReplyDeleteThis is Susie from the SLJ team again. Did you enjoy researching facts about bumblebees? Isn't it pretty interesting to find out how different they are compared to the normal honeybees?
Are you scared of bees at all? Have you ever been stung by a bee? I usually tend to stay away when I see a bee but I still think they're cute. I especially like bumblebees because they are so big and fluffy! I like how you have also mentioned the character 'bumblebee' from transformers.
Did you also know that an average bee will make only one twelfth (1/12) of a teaspoon of honey in its lifetime? Imagine how many bees would have to work for a full jar of honey!
Hope you're well,
Susie :)
