WWF-Fresh Water Seals (SLJ)

Hello readers,

Did you know that there is an organisation built to protect endangered  animal  on earth, called World Wildlife Fund (WWF). There are a lot of WWF workers work in countries all over the world trying to protect our planet and saving the animals that live here.

One of the endangered animals that the WWF workers are trying to protect is fresh water seals in Finland found in Lake Saimaa. There are about 360 individual Saimaa ringed seals left. These seals  give birth in a lair it digs into a snow bank. If  there aren't any snow banks the pups (baby seals) are born on open ice and don't have any protection;.this can lead up to 50% of the pups could die.

WWF workers are trying to save the freshwater endangered seals by building snow banks for seals to give them the protection they need when the pups are born.

By making snow banks for the seals it gives a higher chance of survival for the pups to live because they are safe in there lair.

Its great that WWF can help protect endangered species like this but they need a long term plan to take action quickly because of the weather change.

Q. What other ways can you save endangered species?

Hope you enjoyed my blog thank you for reading my blog posts.

  1. Mōrena Talisa,

Did you enjoy watching the video about the WWF workers trying to save freshwater seals? I think it is important that we keep these animals from becoming extinct because our world would be so much less without them.

You have done a great job summarising all the information given in the video clip. I can see that you have put in a lot of thought into making your post very informative. Which part of the video did you like the most and why? I love the part when they show us a bird's eye view of the people working together to build snow banks. It would never have been possible without team-work!

Did you also get a chance to have a look at the video clip about saving tigers? If not, you should definitely take 3 minutes out of your day to check it out! They tell us how people from all around the world can all contribute to save these animals.

    Keep up the awesome work,
    Susie :)
