Monoprint

 Hello there,

In art we have been doing mono prints. We got a bunch of ___colours___ and put it on a _____. Next we used our drawing of the forests placed it on top of the colour palete and traced or coloured our drawings. My monoprint is extreamly messy thou. I need to improve on pressing down more lightly and trying harder to make it nice and clean. (Very sorry for my messineess I promise that momoprints don't usually look like this)

Here is my mono print

Front (from where I traced)

Disscusion:

1. What is an acid?
An acid is a chemical. It is any substance that in water changes ur taste. For example sour, changes blue litmus paper to red, reacts with some metals to liberate hydrogen, reacts with bases to form salts, and promotes chemical reactions (acid lists).

2. " " a base

3.What happens when you react an acid and a base?
The reaction of an acid and a base is called a neurtalization reaction.

4. How do you measure acid levels?
You measure acid levels with pH. The range goes from 0 - 14 and 7 is the neutral.  Anything below 7 is acid and anything above 7 is base.

Art

 Hello There,

As you know we have been learning about Henri and his art. These last few periods in we drew some nature on baking paper and then we printed it out onto paper. Next we had to colour it in with diffrent colours and make it beautiful.

Actually I wanted to make my art full on black but I know thats not allowed so I didn't do it but instead made it colourful.

Here is my art

Does it look nice?

Is it colouful?

Healthy Diet

 Hola Readers, :)

Excited for Christmas?

In health we have been learning on how to keep a healthy diet. The reason we need to eat properly is because it could affect our future. Like we could get diseases or health problems like diabetes or heart problems stuff like that basically.

We also learned that we need to eat at least 2-3 meals a day. As a teen, you are growing and going through puberty. It's important that you are eating enough. From food you can getr protein/carbs/dairy and fat.

I have learnt = BREAKFAST IS VERY IMPORTANT!

You need to eat breakfast so your brain can function.

Here is a slide with a food plan of what meals you can eat

What do you eat for breakfest?

Thanks for reading this blog. Feel free to comment
Bye bye

Henri Rousseau - Background, Middle Ground, Fore ground

 Hola Friends -v-

Do you like to do art?

This period (in art) we learned about the background, middleground and foreground. The Background is the furtherest object, space or thing we can see in the picture. The middle ground is what is inbeteween the background and foreground, The foreground is the subject that is the closest to the person observing.

Miss (our art teacher) gave us some copies of Henri Rousseau's art and told us to cut out the background, the middleground and the foregraound. It didn't need to be perfect we just had to do it decent enought to be able to tell the back, middle and fore ground. After cutting it out we stick it onto a clean white peace of paper and label them with what they are. Next we describe what we can see and feel from or on the picture.

(If u wanna check it out) This is my work {}-{}

Do you think that they are properly labeled?

Sorry if  {}-{} you couldn't see my words clearly it might be too blurry to read.

Thanks for visiting my blog feel free to comment if you would like too.

Blind Taste Testing

 Aim:

I want to find out if food tastes diffrently when you can't see or smell

Research:

Method:

Equipment
  • Blind fold
  • Mystery Food
Instructions
  1. Get your equipment
  2. Wash your hands
  3. Put on a blind fold
  4. Put your hand out and pinch your nose
  5. Keep your nose pinched and put the food in your mouth
  6. Guess what it is
  7. Release your nose and taste the food
  8. Where does the food react on your tounge?
Results:

Food #1 Tastes like sugar.

Food #2 Tastes like salt

Food #3 Tastes like baking powder.

Food #4 Tastes sour or something

Food #5 Sour lolly/gummy or something

Food #6 burger rings

Food #7 tastes dry but not like a mashmellow

Food #8 tastes like a apple and it is an apple

Food #9 tastes like a gummy bear

Food #10 Tastes like a pear

Food #11 chocolate

Food #12 lemon

Disscussion:

Is there a diffrance between blocked and unblocked nose taste? Yes (To me no)

Why? Taste is only limited to the five senses sweet, salty, sour, bitter and umamai(idk what this is). All other types of flavours that we are able to experience comes from smell. When our noses are blocked most foods would taste bland or tasteless. The sense of smell rasies your abillity of taste. Smell helps with taste and taste helps with smell.

PE: Gymnastics

Good morning everyone,

How is your week? :) mine's great(but nobody asked;-;)

This term in PE we have been learning about some gymnastics and trying out some new skills. To be honest I have never really liked gymnastics. When I found out we were doing gymnastics I was actually thinking of pretending to be sick. Epspecially the part where we need to take our shoes and socks off disgusting.

Anyway back to topic we have been doing gymnastics for exactly about 4 periods. When we do gymnastics a bunch of equipment is put out for us to use. The parallel bars, Mini tramp, Floor, Beam, horizontal bar and trampoline. My favourite equipment is the Beam because you can just lie down on the mats that surrond the beam.

I learned how to do a jump to front support(a flip) on the horrizontal bar. Also I learned how to do a cat leap on the beam. Learning new stuff is exciting i guess but I hope I can soon come to like Gymnastics.

My goal is to be a master on the beam maybe hopefully I am capable of such coolness.

Goodbye and thank you for taking the time to visit my blog feel free to comment.

Hot Chilli

 Aim:

I want to find out the best way to cool down your toung to cool down your toung after eating hot chilli.

Research:

                                                       (SO FUNNY ps:its not -_-)

Method:

Equipment

  • Hot chilli sauce (Carolina Reaper sauce)
  • Popsicle Stick
  • Drinks - Soda, Water, Milk
  • Timer
Instructions
  1. Get your Equipment ready
  2. Scoop up a drop of sauce on your posicle stick
  3. Lick the hot chilli sauce and swerle it around your mouth
  4. Start the timer
  5. After 2mins, drink your drink
  6. After another 2mis rate how hot it was after ur drink
  7. Repeat experiment with diffrent drinks.
Results:
(Btw I didn't do the experiment cause i'm allergic to chilli so I am basically mixing in other peoples opinions)

Rating of hot chilli with each drink
The first chilli I did was without water and I am scoring it a 10 for burning. (Dying from the chilli)

Second Chilli with water(After Drink)
Chilli was still lingering on tounge and basically made it worse. (Water tasted disgusting)`I still rate it 10 for burning.

Thrid chilli with coke.
The burn got better after drinking the coke 5/10 because the bubbles and coldness cooled down the tounge.

Milk /10
Fourth chilli was 4/10 Milk fat cooling down the hottness and helping feel better. Dairy keeps you feeling better.

Disscussion:

Why does chilli burn your mouth?
In spicy food there are certain compunds that activate the type of sensory neurons called Polymodal Nociceptors. You have these all over your body including your nose and mouth. They are the same receptors that are activated by extreme heat. So when you eat something like a chilli peper your mouth feels like its burning because it sends messages to ur brain which thinks your mouth is burning.

Why did the milk reduce the burn?
That's because milk contains casin which helps break down and disolve capsaicin in chilli. Casin is like a

What is Capsaicin
Capsaicin is a part of chili peppers which is a chemical that

 Hello Everyone,

How is your day? :)

For hurumanu one, (You may already know this) but we have been reading Uncle Don Knows Heaps of Wacky Stuff. Pages 17-22 and pick one of the things that interest us and make a DLO about it. I chose a Pekapeka which is just the maori name for bat. Did you know that bats are as small as a mouse?

Henri Rousseau

Namaste and welcome back,

How was your holiday?

In this art period we have been learning about Henri Rosseau. We watched a video called "The Fantastic Jungles of Henri Rousseau" which talked about him. In a google doc we used a split screen and wrote down five facts about him that we got from the video.

Here is an artwork made by Henri Rousseau called The Dream

Screenshot taken from this SITE

Five facts
  1. Henri Rousseau is a talented artist but when he aspired to become one nobody believed in him and mock him for his efforts.

  2. Henri wants to be an artist because he loves nature. He takes a stroll around the parks of Paris and is inspired by the beautiful flowers, trees and sun that blushes as shiny as a ruby.

  3. To learn more about anatomy he studies photography, illustrations from postcards and more.

  4. Every morning Henri wakes up and smiles at his pictures despite all the cruel criticism and harsh opinions people have.

  5. He started to share his paintings around the age of 40.

All these facts came from THIS VIDEO

5 things about Henri Rousseau's Artwork
    1.  Beautiful landscape
    2. Nature and flora type
    3. Main colour is green
    4. Repettitive leaves layering eachother
    5. Leaves, bush, tree main stuff heri uses in his paintings.

Two words from the quizlet

Repetition - Using the same image, shape or colour again and again

Mono - only one

Drama: Maui and the fish Tableaus

Namaste readers,

Do you know the story of Maui and the fish?

In drama class we have been making some tableous about maui and fish. We made a tablou with the start, the middle and the ending. I was a group of 6 with Lita, Riley, Delilah, Shontai and Kate.

Tablous

Tablous are like frezze frames. Showing or representing a scene from anything usinhg your facial expressions, physicality and levels.

Start: Maui and his brothers riding the boat
Lita is sitting on the chair which kind of shows she leading the way as the eldest brother. Maui (Shontai) was hiding. I think we were working well as a group and our expressions were't that good. I think to improve we should of acted like we were rowing.

Middle: The boat shaking in the storm.
In this Tableaou were meant show us holding onto the boat hoping not to fall off. Our expressions need some work and it dosen't seem like it's really shaking I think this tabelou needs some work. But I think we would have done better if it showed someone halfway off the boat.

Ending: Brothers stabbing the huge fish which turned out to be a island.
Were using our hands to make it look like were holding a staff/paddle board to stab the fish which looks pretty good. Lita is like the fish were trying to stab and has pretty nice energy.

Our transitions were not that great. We had to think of what tableaous to do at the time we were said to all suddenly. It was quite hard to work as a team like that.

What is a Transition?

A trasition is basically the time we use to change our actions, expressions, etc.

I enjoyed having drama this term and looking forward to next year :) If we have it again

The rock surface on the outside of the mentos causes the fixxy to fizz.

Starfish

Kia ora Readers,

Did you know that a starfish has no blood or brain?

In class for hurumanu one I have been researching about Starfish. I made a DLO with some fun facts that you might not know about starfish or know already. In my opinion starfish's look really gross and slimy and I would never come near or touch one unless I really had too.

(BTW this is the LINK to the site where i got most of my info from.)

Starfish DLO

Have you learned a little more about starfish?

Would you touch a starfish?

Outstanders

 Namaste Readers,

This term we have been learning about Outstanders:

We learned about...

  • Protests - Parihaka, Women's suffrage, BLM, The great depression, ETC ...
  • Anti - Bullying - Bystanders/Upstanders, You vs Me, Cards situations
  • Netiquette - The language you use online, Informal vs Formal
My favourite subject from Outstanders was the Anti Bullying theme.

We learned about Bystanders and Upstanders.(You may already know)

Bystander - A bystander is someone who know/sees or watches bullies doing the wrong thing. Sometimes they would be cheering them on or see this event and not tell anyone. That is a bystander.
(Don't be a Bystander)

Upstander/Outstander - Is someone who stands up for what they know is right. They protect those who are bullied or when they have no power are not afraid to tell a teacher. (Please be a Upstander)

Some of the work we did was split into groups and get a card. The card had a situation on it with questions on how we would deal with these scenes.

One of the questions was about if you saw someone being bullied.
If you saw someone being bullied how would you deal with it? (Sorry it didn't exactly say this exactly but it's similar I don't have a great memory)

My answer was - I would beat the bully up. Just kidding...

I would tell an adult or tell the bully to stop. I would be a up stander and do whats right.

What would you do?

Shaping up - Geometry

 Bonjour,

Welcome to my blog

This term for Hurumanu 3 we have been doing shaping up (Geometry).

We learned about...

  • Lines/Angles
  • Polygons (shapes)
  • 2D/3D shapes
  • Reflection/Rotation/Translation
  • Parallel lines/ Line segment/ Point/ Intersecting lines
  • Lines of symmetry
  • Nets
  • Scale/Maps/Compass/Direction
  •
Some subjects that stood out to me is ...

Lines and angles. When we learned about lines and angles we found out about Parallel lines, Line segments, Point, Intersecting lines and lines of symmetry.

Glossary
Parallel lines - Parallel lines are two lines that keep going straight facing each other and never meeting.

Line segments - A line with a dot at each end.

Point - Just a dot in the middle

Intersecting lines - Lines that cross each other like a plane.

Lines of symmetry
Lines when you fold it.

Work

Reflection/Rotation/Translation

We learned about reflection, Rotation and translation as well. Reflection is like when its the same on both sides. Rotation is when the centre stays still while the rest move and rotate. Translation is when the subject looks the same but can move.

Some of the work we did on reflection

Scale/Maps/Compass/Direction

We also learned about Scale/Maps/Compass and Direction.

What is Netiquette?

 Aloha Everybody,

What is Netiquette? (Read the title)

To me Netiquette is having good manners online.

For Hururmanu 1 (Outstanders) we have been learning about netiquette. We watched videos, researched for more information, looked on sites and got to learn more about it. Our teachers Miss Allen and Miss Bremner gave us a slide with activities and stuff to do.

(Poster about Netiquette)

Slide of activities and important info

What is Netiquette?

What is an example of how someone does not show Netiquette?

Has someone ever been rude to you online?

Adios,
I hope you learned and have your own understanding of etiquette because of me. Feel free to comment.

Describe what happened

The colour on the skittles in the petri dish slowly dissolved heading towards the middle colouring the water. The colours were separated which made it look like a pattern.

Why did the colour move the way it did?
Because of the shape of the skittle. When sugar is moved into water it heads towards the middle. The colour comes out of the skittle and slowly spread out.

Fish in a Tree

 Hola Everyone,

In hurumanu one (With AL Miss Allen's Class) we have been doing some reading activities. We got split into groups with AL and were given separate work for each group. My group is the book study. We read a book and then answer some questions and do some activities. The book I am currently reading is called "Fish in a Tree". Have you heard of it? It's a really nice book and I love reading it. I'm only up to chapter 16 but its so exciting.

The summary of the book

Reading Comprehension

1) The card Ally gave to her teacher was a sympathy card. A sympathy card is something
you give to loved ones you lost. Ally’s message was misunderstood and people thought that
Ally gave Mrs hall that card to tell her you’re sorry she needs to leave us to go have some
dumb baby.

2) Ally tries to apologise to Mrs Hall but misses the chance to because her mind goes blank
from guilt. She might have also ran because she realised she had missed her bus. ?

3) Ally can’t read it herself so it makes her feel like its a gift in a glass box like it’s
always on display

4) I find writing difficult because I am not able to put my understanding and feelings into a piece
of writing. I find it easy to do maths and reading though.

5) Ally's mum misunderstood her daughter, thinking that she was just trying to be the
class clown; because Ally is always sent to the principal’s office, without knowing her daughter’s
difficulties with reading and writing.

Silver dollar day

A silver dollar day for me would probably be my birthday. We had a lot of food and could eat as much

as we wanted. Every birthday I would always ask my parents to take me to eat. I love eating.

Global Warming

If for how long mankind has been on earth is put into one day. How long would that be?

3 Seconds

Mankind has been on earth for only a mere 3 seconds and look what we have done. Global warming, Deforestation, Pollution. We have wrecked the homes of creatures who have been here way before we have been here and caused many to go extinct and endangered.

It is estimated that in 2050 humanity may overpopulate this country and cause every animal to lose it's home and natural habitat.

That's why for one day each year we have a day called Earth day. In wananga class we got to learn more about what humanity has done to earth and how we can solve our problems. We read a piece of writing and some activities of how we can restore our earth.

Here is my work
