Hot Chilli

 Aim:

I want to find out the best way to cool down your toung to cool down your toung after eating hot chilli.

Research:

Method:

Equipment

  • Hot chilli sauce (Carolina Reaper sauce)
  • Popsicle Stick
  • Drinks - Soda, Water, Milk
  • Timer
Instructions
  1. Get your Equipment ready
  2. Scoop up a drop of sauce on your posicle stick
  3. Lick the hot chilli sauce and swerle it around your mouth
  4. Start the timer
  5. After 2mins, drink your drink
  6. After another 2mis rate how hot it was after ur drink 
  7. Repeat experiment with diffrent drinks.
Results:
(Btw I didn't do the experiment cause i'm allergic to chilli so I am basically mixing in other peoples opinions)

Rating of hot chilli with each drink
The first chilli I did was without water and I am scoring it a 10 for burning. (Dying from the chilli)
    
Second Chilli with water(After Drink)
Chilli was still lingering on tounge and basically made it worse. (Water tasted disgusting)`I still rate it 10 for burning.                                                                                                                                                            

Thrid chilli with coke.                                                                                             
The burn got better after drinking the coke 5/10 because the bubbles and coldness cooled down the tounge.

Milk /10
Fourth chilli was 4/10 Milk fat cooling down the hottness and helping feel better. Dairy keeps you feeling better.

Why does chilli burn your mouth?
In spicy food there are certain compunds that activate the type of sensory neurons called Polymodal Nociceptors. You have these all over your body including your nose and mouth. They are the same receptors that are activated by extreme heat. So when you eat something like a chilli peper your mouth feels like its burning because it sends messages to ur brain which thinks your mouth is burning. 

Why did the milk reduce the burn?
That's because milk contains casin which helps break down and disolve capsaicin in chilli. Casin is like a
