Outstanders

 Namaste Readers,

This term we have been learning about Outstanders:

We learned about...

  • Protests - Parihaka, Women's suffrage, BLM, The great depression, ETC ...
  • Anti - Bullying - Bystanders/Upstanders, You vs Me, Cards situations
  • Netiquette - The language you use online, Informal vs Formal
My favourite subject from Outstanders was the Anti Bullying theme.

We learned about Bystanders and Upstanders.(You may already know)

Bystander - A bystander is someone who know/sees or watches bullies doing the wrong thing. Sometimes they would be cheering them on or see this event and not tell anyone. That is a bystander.
(Don't be a Bystander)

Upstander/Outstander - Is someone who stands up for what they know is right. They protect those who are bullied or when they have no power are not afraid to tell a teacher. (Please be a Upstander)

Some of the work we did was split into groups and get a card. The card had a situation on it with questions on how we would deal with these scenes.

One of the questions was about if you saw someone being bullied.
If you saw someone being bullied how would you deal with it? (Sorry it didn't exactly say this exactly but it's similar I don't have a great memory)

My answer was - I would beat the bully up. Just kidding...

I would tell an adult or tell the bully to stop. I would be a up stander and do whats right.

What would you do?

 Bonjour,

Welcome to my blog

This term for Hurumanu 3 we have been doing shaping up (Geometry).

We learned about...

  • 2D/3D shapes
  • Reflection/Rotation/Translation
  • Parallel lines/ Line segment/ Point/ Intersecting lines
  • Lines of symmetry
  • Nets
  • Scale/Maps/Compass/Direction
  •
Some subjects that stood out to me is ...

Lines and angles. When we learned about lines and angles we found out about Parallel lines, Line segments, Point, Intersecting lines and lines of symmetry.

Glossary
Parallel lines - Parallel lines are two lines that keep going straight facing each other and never meeting.

Line segments - A line with a dot at each end.

Point - Just a dot in the middle

Intersecting lines - Lines that cross each other like a plane.

Lines of symmetry
Lines when you fold it.

Work

Reflection/Rotation/Translation

We learned about reflection, Rotation and translation as well. Reflection is like when its the same on both sides. Rotation is when the centre stays still while the rest move and rotate. Translation is when the subject looks the same but can move.

Some of the work we did on reflection

Scale/Maps/Compass/Direction

We also learned about Scale/Maps/Compass and Direction.

What is Netiquette?

 Aloha Everybody,

What is Netiquette? (Read the title)

To me Netiquette is having good manners online.

For Hururmanu 1 (Outstanders) we have been learning about netiquette. We watched videos, researched for more information, looked on sites and got to learn more about it. Our teachers Miss Allen and Miss Bremner gave us a slide with activities and stuff to do.

(Poster about Netiquette)

Slide of activities and important info

What is Netiquette?

What is an example of how someone does not show Netiquette?

Has someone ever been rude to you online?

Adios,
I hope you learned and have your own understanding of etiquette because of me. Feel free to comment.
