Earthquake Heroes

 Talofa Everyone,

Do you remember the 2011 earthquake?

On the 22nd in February in 2010 a 6.3 earthquake came for 10 seconds killing 185 people. Lot's of people died that day. But luckily there were local heroes and organisations who came to the rescue. Like the student volunteer army who I will be sharing with you today.

Who is the student volunteer army?

In 2010 there was a earthquake that came. After it came there was a huge mess. But Sam Johnston a boy created a Facebook called the ‘Student Base for Earthquake Clean Up’ to assist local residents with non life-saving tasks. Sam and several other leaders of other UC clubs joined together and made the Student Volunteer Army. 11,00 people helped to clean up our beautiful city in NZ.

In the 2011 earthquake in no time at all the Student Volunteer Army had 7000 to 8000 students out on the streets, going up 75,000 hours working alongside Civil Defence, the authorities and relief agencies. The will of students to work at the back-breaking tasks awed people all around New Zealand, and the world.

Do you know any earthquake heroes who maybe have been unrecognised?

My Hero

 Aloha Readers,

Do you have a hero? If so who is it?

I have a lot of hero's who I look up to. Like my dad, my older brothers, my teacher Miss Bremna and lots more. But the hero that I will be talking about is my mum. My hero is loving, compassionate, resilient, committed, trustworthy, respectful, responsible, loyal, confident and brave. The things that make her my mum is her humour, her competitiveness, her patience, her beauty and kindness. They are the attributes that make her my hero and the best mum to me. Mum is not perfect but shes the best.

Do you think my mum is a hero?
